The Big Build – Life Skills Centre

Rutherford School currently offers education for children and young people from the age of 5 to 19. After they finish at the school where do they continue their education? Where can they go to continue to thrive and learn? This is where our idea for a new state-of-the-art Life Skills Centre stemmed from and supports our ambition to deliver outstanding education for all our students, support their lifelong learning and help them fulfil their potential.  The new centre will not only support our pupils but it will also benefit the local community. Within the centre there will be:

  • Hydro-therapy pool
  • Community cafĂ©
  • Learning environments
  • Therapy and sensory rooms
  • Nurses’ office
  • Sensory garden

Late October 2022 work began on the project. Tree surgeons cleared the space before demolition started, and by the beginning of November the space looked very different. These works were required to create an access point for the machinery so foundations can be dug ready for the construction to begin.
